Proverbs 19:17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.
Do we think about giving as though we are lending to the Lord? Obviously, if you give money to a church or to a missionary we might think this.
Do you think it when we are gracious to a struggling family member, or to a homeless person holding a sign along the road? What about paying for someone else’s lunch at a restaurant: someone who cannot pay you back?
In Matthew 6:3-4 Jesus speaks about giving in this way: “But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”
